Proper and efficient cell clearance is crucial for normal\r\n\r\ndevelopment and maintenance of a stable body. To understand the molecular\r\n\r\nand cellular mechanisms of this evolutionarily conserved process, we employ\r\n\r\nthe fruit fly Drosophila Melanogaster as a powerful genetic model, which permits\r\n\r\ncomprehensive mechanistic in vivo studies and provides a\r\n\r\ncomplement to more medical approaches in the field.\r\n\r\nWe study the molecular basis of cell clearance with a particular\r\n\r\ninterest in the role of glial phagocytosis in the establishment and\r\n\r\nfunction of the central nervous system (CNS).
